Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

University of the Arts, Singapore

As a founding member of the University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) builds arts and culture research networks and anchors its role as a leading center for arts and design research in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Research at NAFA plays a vital role in shaping the region’s creative and cultural landscape. The institution's academics contribute to public understanding of key social and cultural issues, while supporting the growth of the creative and cultural industries. Combining theory and creative practice, research at NAFA informs teaching and learning across the arts, design, and media.

With more than 80 years of experience in arts education, NAFA has developed a dynamic and growing research culture. Faculty conduct innovative research in arts pedagogy, technology-enhanced learning, and creative practice, producing work that spans written, digital, embodied, and material forms. Through publications, exhibitions, performances, and conferences, NAFA researchers generate new knowledge and creative solutions that enrich cultural life and engage diverse communities.

NAFA is also committed to advancing the study of Southeast Asian arts and fostering regional collaboration. Through initiatives such as research exchanges, forums, and partnerships with institutions across the region, NAFA supports dialogue and knowledge-sharing around contemporary artistic practices and arts education.
