As a part of Healing Arts Houston 2022, Preston Gaines was an artist-in-residence at the University of Houston (UoH) for a 12-month period as a base for his community arts and health projects to support community wellbeing in both formal (hospitals, institutions, and schools) and informal (neighbourhoods) settings across Houston. During the residency, Preston explored potential applications of his Healing Spaces model in hospitals linked to UoH, in particular Houston Methodism. The residency was funded by the auction of X-Ray Calligraphy #1 (2022) by Ahmed Mater (Saudi Arabia).
