Celebrating the works of local artists
The Barbados Trailway Commissions recognizes the role of public art in addressing the growing mental health crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and further impacted by the La Soufrière volcanic eruption and Category 1 Hurricane Elsa. The project, a competition to design a new rain shelter and two new benches for installation on the Barbados Trailway, highlighted the value of green spaces and the natural environment to enhance our physical, mental and social wellness. Fresh Milk, the Future Centre Trust, and Environ Ltd (Adopt A Stop Barbados) with the support of the Artist Response Fund commissioned local artists to strategically install artistic interventions on the Barbados Trailway as a linear outdoor exhibition, giving artists a chance to contribute to a dynamic and highly anticipated public project. Completion is set for 2025.
